Our mission
Forging links between climate resilience, biodiversity conservation, and societal well-being to reimagine a future where water, life, and human progress flow together in balance
Today’s problem
Uncoordinated and
small-scale solutions
Most aquatic nature-based solutions (NbS) are focusing on one habitat or engineering solution. Current aquatic NbS endeavors thus have a limited impact on wide-scale ecosystem restoration, leaving a range of potential benefits and services untapped: carbon storage, climate regulation, water filtration, coastal protection and habitat provision.
+ Strong climate and biodiv. crisis
+ Limited knowledge
+ Poor stakeholder engagement
= Limited ecosystem services
Small-scale Aquatic NbS
= Ecological and society fragmentation
= UN and EU priorities
= Less resilient
Our mission
To integrate large-scale Aquatic Nature-based
Aqua NbS will expand the provision of ecosystem services by moving from small-scale to integrated and large-scale aquatic NbS to achieve improved societal and ecological resilience.
+ Lower climate and biodiv. crisis
+ Strong knowledge
+ Rich stakeholder engagement
= Multiple ecosystem services
Large-scale Aquatic NbS
= Ecological and society integrity
= Contribution to UN and EU
= More resilient
Research & Resources
Our work is grounded in strong, research-based evidence. Through case studies and cross-project collaboration, Aqua-NbS develops tools and insights that support the implementation of nature-based solutions. This section offers access to our latest findings, publications, and practical resources for climate adaptation and mitigation.
